1. Why Automate Push-Scan to PDF?
In busy home offices and corporate workplaces, digitizing receipts, tax documents, and contracts is a daily necessity. Without button automation, scanning a document requires you to sit at your PC, launch scanning software, configure DPI, click preview, click scan, and choose a save directory.
By configuring your Epson push-scan button to output straight to PDF via Epson Event Manager, you transform the process into a single touch. Walk up to the scanner, press "Scan", and the resulting PDF appears directly in your target folder.
2. Prerequisites Before Configuring
- Ensure your Epson all-in-one printer or scanner is turned on and connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
- Ensure Epson Scan 2 is installed (this provides the scanning engine).
- Ensure Epson Event Manager is running (visible in your system tray or Mac menu bar). If not installed, grab the official installer from our homepage.
3. Step-by-Step Button Programming Guide
- Launch Epson Event Manager: Double-click the Event Manager icon in your Windows taskbar system tray or macOS menu bar.
- Select Your Scanner: In the top Scanner dropdown menu, select your device model (e.g.,
EPSON ET-3850 Series). - Go to Button Settings: Click on the Button Settings tab. You will see a list of physical buttons available on your machine (such as Scan Button, Job 1, Job 2).
- Select the Action: Next to your desired button, open the Action dropdown and select Scan to PDF.
- Configure Save Destination: Click the Edit button. In the parameters panel:

- Set File Type to
- Save & Apply: Click OK and then Apply.
4. Advanced Settings: OCR & Multi-Page Binding
To make your digitized PDFs searchable:
- Inside Job Settings, check the box labeled Create Searchable PDF. Epson's built-in OCR engine will recognize text and embed invisible searchable characters.
- For multi-page contracts: In the Paper Source settings, select Auto Document Feeder (ADF) and enable Continuous Scanning so all sheets combine into a single PDF rather than multiple separate files.
5. Routing Directly to Google Drive & OneDrive Folders
To synchronize scans across all your devices instantly:
- In the Destination Folder dialog, browse to your local cloud sync folder:
- Google Drive:
G:\My Drive\Scanned Documents - OneDrive:
C:\Users\Username\OneDrive\Documents\Scans - Dropbox:
C:\Users\Username\Dropbox\Scans
- Google Drive:
- Now, every time you press the physical button on your scanner, the file will be saved locally and synced to your cloud account within seconds.
